Special Educational Needs Department

Aims of Department

Leyland St Mary's has developed a whole -school approach to Special Educational Needs. We aim to meet the full range of individual needs within the curriculum. Everyone is involved: staff, children, governors and parents.

Key Stage 3

The Special Needs classes have a maximum of fifteen pupils and follow a broad and balanced curriculum, as do all other sets up to Key Stage 3 of the National Curriculum. The present Years 10 and 11 follow GCSE and NVQ courses

Key Stage 4

Differentiated work is produced allowing all pupils access to the National Curriculum. There is a variety of teaching and learning aids which include the Wordshark Learning Package. This and other ICT resources are available in the Nurture Room. Pupils have access to all other computers in school as well. Each department promotes an enriched curriculum.
